Reflection Exhibition

EXHIBITION ✦ FREE
No Vacancy Gallery, 34-40 Jane Bell Lane. Melbourne

Multicultural Arts Victoria presents 'Reflection', part of the 2017 Mapping Melbourne Festival.

‘Reflection’ presents the works of three contemporary artists based in Melbourne: Pimpisa Tinpalit, Leah Jing and Yumemi Hiraki. This exhibition is presented in a partnership with No Vacancy Gallery to promote high-calibre contemporary Asian-Australia Art.

Liminal by Leah Jing McIntosh
Asian-Australian representation is largely absent from the Australian cultural landscape; stories that define us are often about us, not by us. 'Liminal' is an attempt to create space where we may shape our own narratives.

Each photograph is a collaboration with the subject, with an aim to present them as they are: in surroundings of their choosing, in garments of their own. What does it mean to be Asian-Australian? What does it mean to take up space? These photographs engage with the multiplicity, strength and beauty of Asian-Australian identity. The exhibition also features a sound work created in collaboration with flowerboy 卓颖贤.
