i wish i could start again with you
as something useful      like a rat
pulling your hair      in a french restaurant
or a pop song      a chainsaw
meg ryan in the ’90s or rye bread
from a baker with kind eyes

i wanna be the landscape
watching your arms outstretch
from my place in the grass
while a handsome poet bends their knees
to take a picture of you

i keep telling my friends that it doesn’t have to be better,
it just has to not be this
i just wanna have a coffee !
without anyone asking about what i am to you

the thing that i am      is fine now
       & still
i didn’t have to leave      the way i did
it doesn’t matter
i bless all of my mistakes
